Hanoi rings in New Year in music, fireworks

Tens of thousands of Hanoians, old and young alike, heralded the New Year in Hanoi on December 31 night with music and in the light of low-range display of fireworks.

Crowds began to gather alongcolourfully-decorated streets since late afternoon to enjoy music anddance performances around the Hoan Kiem (Restored Sword) lake in thecity’s central area.

The August Revolution Square in front ofthe Opera House was illuminated with splendid light. Hundreds of artistsentertained the audiences with both traditional and modern music anddances as well as a show of traditional long dress and dance sportperformances.

The spirit was also high at Ba Kieu temple, Thang Long puppetry theatre and the Old Quarter in the vicinity.

For many Hanoians, it has become a tradition to go to Hoan KiemLake to usher in both the solar and lunar New Year.-VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
