Hanoi (VNA) –
Hanoi is striving to have 10 districtsrecognised as new-style rural areas in 2020, according to a local official.

Since the beginning ofthis year, two more communes in the capital’s Gia Lam outlying district havebeen recognised as new-style rural areas.

Hanoi has six new-stylerural districts, namely Dan Phuong, Dong Anh, Thanh Tri, Hoai Duc, Quoc Oai andGia Lam.

To achieve the target,Permanent Vice Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Ngo Thi Thanh Hangrequested the municipal Department of Agriculture and Rural Development tospeed up the disbursement of a 700-billion-VND (over 30 million USD) aidpackage for districts and communes to develop agriculture, build new-stylerural areas, and improve local living standards.

She also asked thedepartment to implement packages to promote agriculture growth and develop keyproducts in animal husbandry and the cultivation of vegetables, flowers, bonsaitrees and fruit.

The official said thatdiseases this year have affected economic development in general and theagriculture sector in particular.

The sector needs to exertmore efforts to fulfill its yearly growth target of over 4 percent.

According to directorof the department Chu Phu My, the city’s agricultural growth declined by 1.17percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2020 due to the impact of Africanswine fever and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The national targetprogramme on building new-styled rural areas was initiated by the Government in2010 with the aim of developing rural regions. The list of criteria includesthe development of infrastructure, the improvement of production capacity,environmental protection, and the promotion of cultural values./.
