Hanoi to have 25 new parks

– The Hanoi People’s Committee aims to implementseveral projects to strengthen national capacity in response to climate changeand environmental pollution in the capital during 2016-2020.

The city will build an additional 25 parks, repair and maintain 104 artificiallakes, and treat 122 polluted lakes in the inner city.

More wastewater treatment plants will be developed, in the expectation that, by2019, all wastewater in urban districts is treated to improve the water qualityin the To Lich and Nhue rivers.

The city has effectively operated a solid waste treatment plant that generatespower from waste with incineration technology. It has received 3 foreigninvestors wishing to build more waste treatment plants with that technology in thecity’s Nam Son, Xuan Son and Dong Ke districts.

Hanoi is also carrying out a programme to plant one million trees. The cityhopes that by 2020, green areas will reach 10-11sq.m per person.

Authorities are also focusing on relocation and resettlement plans forhouseholds living in areas affected by climate change and natural disasters.

Organising and guiding relief plans are also being implemented to ensure urbancitizens can adapt to climate change.
