Hanoi to host “One village one product” exhibition

An exhibition called “One village one product” (OVOP) displaying Vietnamese high-quality handicraft products will open in Hanoi on December 9 as part of efforts to attract more tourists to the capital and promote traditional craft villages.

Hanoi (VNA) – An exhibition called “One village one product” (OVOP) displayingVietnamese high-quality handicraft products will open in Hanoi on December 9 aspart of efforts to attract more tourists to the capital and promote traditionalcraft villages. 

As the first event of its kind in Hanoi, thefour-day exhibition will feature 30-40 booths from traditional handicraftvillages nationwide.

The OVOP aims to raise awareness of developinghandicrafts among enterprises, trade villages and the community and create achange of their thinking in designing products,  thus preserving and developing traditionaltrade villages.

Speaking at a press conference to announce theevent, Vice Director of the Hanoi Investment, Trade and Tourism PromotionCentre Nguyen Thi Mai Anh said the event will feature decorative lights madefrom bamboo, wood, silk, paper and ceramics, making the displayed products lookmore beautiful.

Vietnam boasts a huge number of craft villages,which have consolidated their foothold in the country’s socio-economicstructure. 

The country’s craft products have been sold indomestic and international markets, creating stable incomes for over onemillion craftspeople, which are much higher income than from rice farming. 

Craft villages often attract many idle labourersof different ages and help alleviate poverty, especially for disabled people.-VNA
