Hanoi (VNA) – Hanoi’s People’s Committee hasproposed that the Government choose a Japanese company as a consultantcontractor to implement the planning of underground parking stations in thecity.

In a document sent to the Government, thecommittee said the planning of underground parking areas in four innerdistricts of the city is necessary to solve the urgent parking demand ofresidents and curb traffic congestion.

The project, which will be implemented in HoanKiem, Ba Dinh, Dong Da, and Hai Ba Trung districts, must include measures toprotect the historical value of the city and connect commercial and culturalcentres and infrastructure. The cost of planning the underground garage systemin the city is 500 million VND (22,030 USD), which has been approved by thecity’s committee.

According to the committee, the undergroundparking stations project is the first of its kind in Vietnam, and the city hasno experience. Thus, it is necessary to select the right consultant unit toexecute the project.

However, the committee found that none of thedomestic units had experience in implementing such projects. Therefore, itdecided to propose to the Government to select a contractor following Article26 of the Bidding Law.

It suggested Nikken Sekkei Civil Engineering Ltdunder Japan’s Nikken Sekkei Corporation execute the project considering thefirm’s experience in implementing various projects in the field of undergroundinfrastructure in Japan. The company has also participated in planning urbanand industrial areas in more than 30 cities and provinces nationwide.

Previously, in January, the committee wasapproved to hire the company to implement the planning of urban areas at Hanội’srailway stations and surrounding areas. -VNA
