Hanoi's high school students may return to school next month

Hanoi (VNA) – Given that the COVID-19vaccination for children goes on at an expected pace, high school students inHanoi will be allowed to return to school in December, Deputy Director ofthe municipal Department of Education and Training Pham Xuan Tien said on November22.
Hanoi was to begin COVID-19 vaccine rollout for high schoolstudents (aged 15 – 17) on November 23, Tien said, noting that it was expectedto be completed on November 28. Schools have been promptly reviewing their students’records for the vaccination to start soon, he said.
Tien added that after that the capital city will start inoculatingsecondary school students.
Secondary schools in the suburban district of Ba Vi were thefirst to welcome back their students, with ninth graders resuming in-personlearning since November 8 after months of learning online. Others in low-risksuburban districts and towns are scheduled to reopen between November 22 – 24.
Based on the pandemic’s developments, the Department ofEducation and Training will coordinate with the municipal Department of Healthto develop and submit to the Hanoi People’s Committee a nextreturn-to-school roadmap for local students./.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam on November 2 urged Hanoi to stay highly alert as the COVID-19 pandemic has already “penetrated very deeply into the community”.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has recommended that schools should be reopened for fully vaccinated students from grades nine to 12 in COVID-19 low- and medium-risk areas on December 10.
Schools in Hanoi’s 17 suburban districts and towns are ready to receive students back after the city authorities allowed ninth graders in those localities to go to school again on November 22 after months of remote learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
