The Customs Department of Ho Chi Minh City held a dialogue with more than 200 Japanese businesses on November 22 to inform them about new customs regulations and field their questions.

HCM City (VNA) – The CustomsDepartment of Ho Chi Minh City held a dialogue with more than 200 Japanesebusinesses on November 22 to inform them about new customs regulations andfield their questions.

Valuing Japanese firms’ adherence to localregulations, Director of the Customs Department Dinh Ngoc Thang said throughthis event, his agency collected businesses’ opinions about tax policy andcustoms procedures, so as to remove obstacles facing them in a timely manner, reduceadministrative procedures and improve the investment climate in Vietnam.

Kadowaki Keiichi, Chairman of the Japanese BusinessAssociation of Ho Chi Minh City (JCCH), said the dialogue gave Japanese firms achance to talk face-to-face with and understand the cooperative spirit of thecustoms agency. They hope that it will become a frequent activity.

He noted the meeting helped consolidate Japanesefirms’ trust in the partnership with the local customs department. He alsoexpected they will expand their investment in Vietnam, including HCM City, tocontribute to the two economies.

Japanese investment in Vietnam is growingstrongly, reaching 9.5 billion USD between January and October this year,turning Japan into the country’s top foreign investor. Over the last fouryears, the number of Japanese businesses in the Southeast Asian nation soaredby 40 percent. Bilateral trade is expected to approximate 34 billion USD in2018.-VNA

Under a draft to amend and supplement the Government's Decree 125/2020/ND-CP on administrative sanctions for violations of tax and invoice regulations, the Ministry of Finance has proposed classifying the failure to issue invoices into five different levels. Infraction levels will correspond to fines of 1 million VND to 80 million VND, depending on the nature and number of invoicing violations.
