HCM City expects technical support to bus rapid transit line

Ho Chi Minh City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City authorities have req𒆙uested technical support worth 10.5 million USD to an eco-friendly bus rapid transit line (BRT) projec𓆉t.

The technical support project is expected to get underway between 2016 and 2020, including three components on integrated urban and transport planning, increased connectivity between other modes of transport and the BRT system, and improved capacity of relevant units. The first BRT line, lies on the Vo Van Kiet – Mai Chi Tho highway, is being built at a cost of 137.5 million USD, 124 million USD of which was funded by the World Bank via the Swiss State Secretariat of Economic Affairs.
It is due to be operational in December 2018. The city is working on plan to invest five other lines aims to complete a City's public transport system. Accordingly, the 24 kilometer BRT line 2 is planned along Nguyen Van Linh Street from the Mien Tay Terminal to Phu My bridge which connects district 2 and district 7. The 19km line 3 will run along Ring Road 2 from An Suong intersection to the new Mien Tay terminal.
The 14.5km line 4 will be from Kha Van Can Street to Chien Thang park along the Tan Son Nhat- Binh Loi Ring Road. The 8.7 km line 5 will run from Thoai Ngoc Hau street to Nguyen Van Linh street and the 8.5km line 6 will run along Quang Trung street. Upon completion, the BRT system will be able to carry up to 28,300 passengers per day.-VNA
