HCM City (VNA) - The HoChi Minh City’s People’s Committee has decided to invest in an electronic tollcollection system (ETC) at three toll booths in the city.

The three toll booths, which willbe funded by the BOT (build-operate-transfer) mode, will be installed at PhuMy, Hanoi expressway and An Suong – An Lac locations.

The ETCs use Radio FrequencyIdentification (RFID) technology under ISO/IEC standards. The wireless systemincludes e-tags and readers.

The system can process feecollections at a vehicle’s maximum speed of 40km/h. It will later be upgradedto 120km/h.

To pay tolls via ETCs, vehicleowners will be issued an e-tag attached to the inside of the front windscreenof a vehicle and will receive an account for fee collection.

ETCs can save a lot of time andfuel for drivers, curb congestion and reduce pollution as drivers will nolonger have to stop their vehicles and pay fees manually as was done currently, according to the HCM City’s People’s Committee.
