HCM City leader extends greetings on Laos, Cambodia’s traditional New Year

HCM City (VNA) – Ho Chi Minh City hosted agathering with Lao and Cambodian students on April 13 to celebrate theirtraditional New Year festivals – Bunpimay (Laos) and Choul Chnam Thmey (Cambodia).
It was attended by Deputy Secretary of the city’s PartyCommittee Nguyen Ho Hai, Cambodian Consul General Sok Dareth, and Lao Deputy ConsulGeneral Vongphan Phomphiphack.
It was part of a series of events organised by the municipal committeeof the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCYU) to promote exchanges with Laoand Cambodian students and to mark the 55th anniversary ofthe Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic relations (June 24, 1967 – 2022) and the 60th anniversary of the Vietnam-Laos diplomatic ties (September 5, 1962 – 2022).
Hai offered his greetings to the Laoand Cambodian students who are studying in the city, wishing that they will still have a warm and happy New Year while living away from home.
He reaffirmed that giving great attention to Lao andCambodian students, the city leaders have implemented a number of supportprogrammes for them, notably one connecting the foreign students withVietnamese families.
The official also expected the Lao and Cambodian studentswill continue contributing to strengthening the solidarity and close friendshipbetween the three countries./.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has sent greeting letters and flowers to General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith and President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen on the occasion of the traditional New Year of Laos (Bunpimay) and Cambodia (Chol Chnam Thmay).
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had separate phone talks with his Lao and Cambodian counterparts, extending his best wishes to them and the two peoples on the occasion of Laos’ Bun Pi May and Cambodia’s Chol Chnam Thmay new year festivals.
A delegation of Vietnamese representative agencies in France, led by Ambassador Dinh Toan Thang and his spouse, on April 12 visited and congratulated the Embassy of Laos in Paris on the occasion of Bunpimay Festival (traditional New Year of Laos) which will take place from April 14 – 16.

A 21-year-old Indian tourist was successfully resuscitated and treated by doctors at Hoan My Da Nang Hospital after a near-drowning incident left him in critical condition. After three days of intensive care, the man was discharged from the hospital and has since returned to India.
