HCM City (VNA) – Politburo member NguyenThien Nhan, who is also Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, onFebruary 2 visited various religious establishments and dignitaries in the cityon the occasion of the upcoming traditional lunar New Year (Tet).
Visiting Most Venerable Thich Tri Quang at Hue Nghiem Pagodain District 2, Nhan spoke highly of the monk’s contributions to the developmentof Buddhism in the country in general and the city in particular. He wished thedignitary good health and continued contributions to the further development ofthe religion.
For his part, Thich Tri Quang praised the city’s achievementsover the recent past and expressed his belilef that in the new year, the citywill reap further achievements.
The same day, Nhan visited supportless old people who are beingtaken care of at a church in Thu Thiem (District 2). He highly valued thesocial activities of the church and stressed that it has done well the charitywork.
Before that, the official visited the Thu Thiem Church,where he extended warm regards to Parish Priest Le Dang Niem and spoke highlyof his work in easing the difficulties of the poor.
Also on February 2, Nhan visited and extended Tet greetingsto representatives of the Party Committee, administration and locals of Nha Bedistrict, asking them to accelerate the administrative reform and to focusefforts on the national programme of building new-style rural area in thelocality.-VNA
