HCM City police to conduct population census

– The Ho Chi Minh City police will collect and versify demographic data from all 24 districts starting next month for creating a national population database at the Ministry of Public Security.

Training for population data collection and review for the national population database began in January for the police and other revelant authorities.

The city police have collaboratied with Viettel Group to create the IT infrastructure for the project.

The census is part of the Government’s ongoing administrative reforms.

Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong said the foreign affairs department could collect information about city residents living abroad while the Military High Command would do this in case of officials, soldiers and military workers.

The Department of Justice would verify the data to ensure accuracy, he said.

The fifth national population and housing census, expected to be launched in April 2019, will collect detailed information about the country’s population and housing, which will serve as a basis for the review of the socio-economic development 2011-2020 and the building of a socio-economic plan for 2021-2030. 

The outcomes of the census is also meant to appraise the fulfillment of the United Nations’ Post-2015 Sustainable Development Goals, build a database on population statistics in line with ꦓthe Law on Statistics, and supplement the national, ministry and industry database for further study, analysis and forecast of population growth and housing development nationwide and in each locality, thus serving e-government building at four levels.-VNA
