Illustrative image (Photo: VNA) HCM City (VNA) – Peopleaged 65 and above and those with underlying health conditions in Ho Chi MinhCity are on the priority list for vaccination against COVID-19 in the fifthphase of its inoculation drive, which is set to begin on July 22.
Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Health Nguyen Huu Hung made thestatement during a conference updating the city pandemic situation late July21.
The targeted group will get their jabs at hospitals, he added.
The fifth phase, with 930,000 doses to be administered, will be carried out at20 hospitals, alongside 615 commune- and ward-based vaccination sites. It isscheduled to complete in two weeks.
In addition to the group of persons aged 65 and above and those with underlyinghealth conditions, priority will be also given to preferential social policyand welfare beneficiaries, the poor, the vulnerable, medical and otherfrontline workers.
The city has so far received 2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines from theMinistry of Health. The ministry plans to supply three million more doses tothe city in late August and early September, raising the total doses sent tothe city to 5 million.
As of July 22 morning, HCM City had reported 43,776 coronavirus cases since thefourth wave hit Vietnam on April 27, making it the country’s largest hotspot. Asmany as 4,837 COVID-19 patients had been discharged from hospitals as of theend of July 21, according to the city’s Department of Health./.
