HCM City, Rotterdam cooperate in climate change response

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan and Mayor of the Netherlands’ Rotterdam city Ahmed Aboutaleb signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a cooperative programme on climate change from 2015-2018 on March 10.

The MoUaims to maintain and intensify existing cooperation between the twocities in climate change adaptation over the next three years. Given theprogress both cities have made in implementing response strategies andRotterdam’s participation in the 100 Resilient Cities Initiative, thetwo sides will work to organise exchanges between their sectors,agencies and institutes.

They will shareexperiences in applying climate change response measures, designingplans and attracting public involvement. Rotterdam will discuss thedevelopment of its resilience strategy, including assessing thevulnerability of important infrastructure facilities.

At the signing ceremony, Quan said that the “Ho Chi Minh City -moving towards the sea with climate change adaptation” programme is thecity’s top priority and Rotterdam’s involvement and expertise in thearea is critical.

Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb, inturn, pledged to connect experts from the two cities to generate ideasfor effectively completing projects and attracting investment in thefield in Ho Chi Minh City.-VNA

As a key member of the core group of 18 countries, initiated by Vanuatu, Vietnam engaged in advocating for the UN General Assembly’s Resolution N.77/276, requesting for the ICJ’s advisory opinion. Following the resolution's adoption, Vietnam fully participated in all procedural steps for the first time, from submitting written proposals to presenting directly at the court’s hearings.

Hanoi to ro🎀ll out policies supporting green transport transition

Under the plan, from 2025 to 2026, the city will complete mechanisms and policies to support businesses in switching to green vehicles, expand the electric and green-energy bus network, and build charging stations. The targeted proportion of green buses is set at 10% in 2025 and 20–23% in 2026.
