HCM City (VNA) – Building smart urban areas is urgent for Ho ChiMinh City to maintain sustainable economic growth, promote the digital andknowledge-based economy and raise locals’ living standards.

At a conference held in the city on November 28, local authorities said they willlaunch four “core” centres at the outset of 2019, specifically an intelligentoperations centre, a socio-economic simulation and forecast centre, an informationsafety centre and a shared database and open database eco-system centre.

According to Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Information andCommunications (DIC) Le Quoc Cuong, the first phase of the shared database andopen database eco-system centre, integrating existing database of departmentsand sectors in the city, will be put into operation at Quang Trung softwarecity. The building of the shared database in the second phase will be put upfor tender in the second phase scheduled for the third quarter next year.

The operations centre will connect with and manage current camera systems, andintegrate information from emergency hot lines like 113 (for urgent policehelp), 114 (for fire service), 115 (medical emergencies) and 1022 (forreflection of urban technical infrastructure incidents). During January-March,the city will approve a report on a pre-feasibility study of the intelligentoperations center.

Regarding the socio-economic simulation and forecast centre, the city will setup a simulation office at the Ho Chi Minh City Institute for DevelopmentStudies to build documents for the 11th congress of the municipal PartyCommittee. A report on the pre-feasibility study of the centre will be ratifiedin the first quarter.

On the information safety centre, DIC Director Duong Anh Duc said that it willbe operated under the joint stock company model to attract high-quality humanresources in information safety.

Duc said the city wants to receive recommendations from residents andenterprises on measures to bolster smart city development. The project will beupdated regularly to meet requirements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution andin accordance with global smart city development trends.-VNA
