HCM National Academy of Politics to grant scholarships to South Africa

The Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics (HCMA) is willing to provide full scholarships to South African students, said deputy director of the academy Le Quoc Ly at a working session with First Deputy General Secretary of the South African Communist Party Solly Mapaila in Pretoria on January 17.

Pretoria (VNA) – The Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics(HCMA) is willing to provide full scholarships to South African students, said deputydirector of the academy Le Quoc Ly at a working session with First Deputy GeneralSecretary of the South African Communist Party Solly Mapaila in Pretoria onJanuary 17.

Eachyear, the HCMA will grant 20 scholarships to the South Africa on courses taughtin English, Ly said, adding that along with Vietnamese lecturers, the academyis inviting lecturers and experts from the UK and the US to teach.

Healso said the HCMA is training many foreign students from Laos, Cambodia andMozambique and plans to train those from Cuba.

Welcomingthe Vietnamese delegation, Mapaila said the visit demonstrated the solidaritybetween the South African Communist Party and the Communist Party of Vietnam(CPV).

Sinceits foundation, the South African Communist Party has considered the strugglesfor national liberation against French colonialists and American imperialistsled by the Communist Party of Vietnam as a model to follow.

Regardingthe scholarships, he proposed assigning people in charge of liaison to speed upthe cooperation.

Atthe meeting, representatives from the HCMA and the South African CommunistParty exchanged notes on each country’s socio-economic situation, as well asissues related to the development of socialism in the modern era.

Withinthe framework of its visit, the Vietnamese delegation is expected to hold aworking session with the African National Congress (ANC) - South Africa's rulingpolitical party – on January 18.-VNA

Death penalty for ꦉeight criminal offenses lifted

The new law abolishes the death penalty for eight criminal offenses: the crime aimed at overthrowing the people’s government; the crime of sabotaging state infrastructure and technical facilities; the crime of producing and trading counterfeit medicines for treatment and prevention; the crime of destroying peace and causing aggressive war; the crime of espionage; that of illegally transporting narcotics; embezzlement; and bribe taking.
