Hanoi (VNA) – Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien ordered Hanoiauthorities to promote communication work to raise public awareness of denguefever prevention during a trip to inspect disease control in Thuy Khue ward,Tay Ho district on August 20.

Chemical spraying only kills mosquitoes carrying the viral infection, Tienstressed, asking locals to kill mosquito larvae.

She called for further mosquito spraying campaigns in crowded areas likemarkets, clinics, hospitals, cinemas and other public places.

From the beginning of the year, Tay Ho district has recorded 300 cases of denguefever, 67 of which were in Thuy Khue ward.

Statistics from the municipal health sector showed that more 18,000 people havecontracted the infectious disease this year, causing seven deaths.

Currently, 12 districts are on red alert for dengue fever. Dong Da, Hoang Mai,Ha Dong and Thanh Xuan districts have reported the most dengue cases.

According to Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Ngo Van Quy,mosquito spraying in kindergartens, schools, universities and markets will partlyhelp the city control the disease. -VNA
