Heat waves, water shortage continue in next three months

All regions in Vietnam are likely to experience higher temperatures and less rain falls between June and August this year compared to the yearly average level, according to the National Centre for Hydrometeorological Forecasting (NCHMF).

The average temperatures across the country in summer months will bebetween 0.5-1 degree Celcius higher than normal due to the impacts of ElNino pattern while less rainfalls means water shortages will continuein central Vietnam until mid-September, the NCHMF warned.

Water levels of rivers are forecast to be 30-60 percent less than theaverage of previous years in central and Central Highlands provinces andeven 60-95 percent less in the South Central region.

The heat wave will return to the northern region in the next two daysfrom June 2, with day temperatures hovering between 35-38 degree C.

In central Vietnam, the hot spell is expected tocontinue for the next 10 days with an average high temperature rangingfrom 36 to 39 degree C and even exceeding 40 degree C in some areas.
