Ho Chi Minh City seeks stronger partnership with Japanese universities

HCM City (VNA) – Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’sCommittee Nguyen Thanh Phong has visited several universities of Japan to seekpartnership with the facilities to serve the city’s development.

In Tokyo University of Science in Suwa, Phong said that Ho Chi Minh Cityplans to develop a smart city with an area of 22,000 hectares and population of1 million people, facilitating the city’s engagement in Industry 4.0.

He said he hopes the university will support the city to complete theplan.

Phong also proposed that the university design cooperation programmeswith Ho Chi Minh City National University in scientific research and businessand technology management training.

At a working session with Matsumoto Dental University in Shiojiri, Phongexpressed his belief that the number of Vietnamese students in Japan willincrease as a pilot programme to teach Japanese in primary schools is provingeffective.

Matsumoto Dental University and Ho Chi Minh City should discusspartnerships in education and training, especially in new scientific sectors.

Working with the association of production promotion of Suwa, the Ho ChiMinh City leader said that with high growth, the city is a popular investment destinationfor Japanese investors.

According to the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), more than 70percent of Japanese businesses want to expand their operations in Vietnam.

Noting that Ho Chi Minh City aims to become a trade-finance-science andtechnology centre of Southeast Asia, Phong noted that the city values resourcesfrom outside and always create optimal conditions for investors.

He said that the city hopes to attract more investment in urbaninfrastructure, high-technology agriculture and smart city projects.

Earlier, Phong and the Ho Chi Minh City delegation also visited MikuroSpring and Komatsu Seiki Kosakusho companies.-VNA
