Hanoi (VNA) ꦅ- Indian tech billionaire Narayana Murthy shared practical experiences that have helped him and his associates turn Infosys Technologies into a legend in the IT industry in India.

Narayana Murthy, the co-founder of Infosys Technologies, who is known as “India’s Bill Gates”, had a dialogue with Vietnamese information technology (IT) experts at the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park in Hanoi on May 20 as part of his visit to Vietnam from May 19 – 23. He shared the business experiences and insights on corporate culture building that have helped him and his colleagues transform Infosys into a symbol of India's tech industry.

Secrets to successful business

Regarding secrets to successful business leadership, Murthy said in developing countries, businesses need to delineate responsibilities and work relationships.

In response to FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh’s question on how to keep associates committed for many years, Murthy said that businesses need to create favourable conditions and empower their employees to make them feel happy by providing freedom, evaluating them fairly, and rewarding them, thereby retaining the best talents.

Respect from customers will help a business achieve 100% profit, and with customers’ trust, a company will attract employees from other enterprises, he said.

From another perspective, if a business wants to gain the trust of the government, it must also become one of the most respected companies, he added. Based on Infosys's practical experience, Murthy said that for success, besides choosing high-demand fields, businesses need to ensure three important factors: sales, financial control, and human resources. The billionaire said the most important thing for a company is not to make profits but to create jobs. He believed that when jobs are generated, sales and profits will come naturally because that is the root of business, and sales and profits are just the results. According to Murthy, Vietnam has recently emerged as a global technology destination, reflecting the country's commitment and investment.

The billionaire said he valued the courage, hard work, discipline, creativeness, and ambition of many generations of Vietnamese. He added that in the next 20 years, Vietnam will soon become one of the leading developed countries in Asia and one of the fastest-growing economies in the world. He expressed his belief that Vietnam would bring prosperity to its people faster than most countries. Many countries around the world need to learn from the creativity of Vietnamese people, he said, while emphasising the value of exchanging ideas with others. “Binh has proven to me the value of openness, exchanging ideas with everyone, and the value of ideas, which are not only useful to Binh but also to others,” he said, adding that those ideas can be deployed into products. Vietnam is the only country in Southeast Asia that can create a software service business like FPT, he noted. Murthy said he believed that FPT will be even more successful in the future, reaching its goal of 2 billion USD from IT services provided in foreign markets much faster thanks to a lot of determination, courage and tireless efforts.
For his part, Binh said India, and Infosys has inspired FPT and Vietnam. Some 24 years ago, FPT came to India to learn how to make Vietnam a software powerhouse, and Narayana Murthy inspired us with absolute confidence, Binh stressed./.
