Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia will continue 🐼to encourage special economic zones (SEZs) to expand and compete with those in Malaysia and Singapore, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said on September 29.

According to Hartarto, Indonesia has developed several SEZs near the two neighbouring countries, including the Nongsa SEZ in Batam and the Galang Batang SEZ in Bintan, Riau Islands.
The country has decided to expand the zones to better compete with countries in the region that have strength in SEZs like Singapore and Malaysia. Meanwhile, one of Indonesia’s semiconductor industries is being developed in Batam because it needs a market and a free flow of raw materials. Several other SEZs that are being developed to become catalysts for the semiconductor industry are the Kendal SEZ in Central Java and the East Java SEZ./.
