Jakarta (VNA)ꦅ – The Indonesian Government will ease regulations to support the growth of the furniture industry, boost its competitiveness, and expand the industry's global reach, according to Deputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza.

He said that regulatory ease is one of the government's main measures to support the furniture industry in coping with global challenges. Regulatory support is key for boosting the strength and growth of the furniture and craft industries in Indonesia, the official added. According to Riza, although the global economic situation is currently not favourable, Indonesia's non-oil and gas manufacturing industry sector continues to grow and remains strong, and even experiences significant growth.
The contribution of the manufacturing industry sector to Indonesia's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2024 was estimated at 17.16%, with growth of around 4.7% year-on-year. The number of workers in the manufacturing industry also increased to around 19.96 million, reflecting the positive developments in the sector. Indonesia's Manufacturing Value Added (MVA) in 2023 was recorded at 255 billion USD, earning it the 12th place globally. Its MVA was the highest among ASEAN countries.
Riza emphasised that in developing the domestic furniture industry, the Ministry of Industry is fully committed to doing the work and taking strategic measures, especially providing facilities for raw materials and human resources' availability. Meanwhile, General Chairperson of the Indonesian Furniture and Craft Association (HIMKI) Abdul Sobur said that the furniture and craft industries are highly strategic, unlike mining, where resources will run out at some point.

ꦿHe highlighted that Indonesia's furniture export potential still has room for growth./.
