Jakarta (VNA)🍌 – Indonesia plans to invite Vietnam to an aquaculture business forum slated for October 11-12, in an effort to call on neighbouring countries to invest in the sector, according to Secretary General of the Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sjarief Widijaja.

Jakarta has adopted a policy to develop the aquaculture sector, he affirmed.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Hoang Anh Tuan recalled that Vietnam and Indonesia signed a memorandum of understanding on fisheries cooperation for 2011-2015, which has been renewed for 2016-2020 during the recent visit by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Vu Van Tam. He expressed his hope that the forum will open up a chance for Vietnamese firms to explore business opportunities and learn more about Indonesian market.
Earlier, 228 Vietnamese fishermen, who had been arrested for accidentally fishing in Indonesia’s seas several months ago, were repatriated on September 14, marking the single biggest number of Vietnamese fishermen released by the country so far. The repatriation took place in waters off Natuna island, about 74km from Pelabuhan Teluk Lampa seaport. This is the first time Indonesia has handed over fishermen to foreign countries in its waters.-VNA
