Indonesia urges reduction in fast food consumption among students

Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesian Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo has advised parents and schools to collaborate in minimising students' consumption of fast food to ensure their health and physical development.

Speaking to the media after a field trip to oversee the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal Programme (MBG) on January 6, Agus emphasised that families and schools should strive to provide nutritious food for children, ensuring that meals include sufficient vegetables and protein. Additionally, he called for limiting fast food items such as instant noodles and carbonated drinks.

He stated that building the nation’s human resources is a long-term strategy being implemented by the government. Ensuring proper nutrition for students is a critical step toward achieving the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision, he continued.

ꦏ Agus also said he has held a working session with the Nutritional Service Fulfillment Unit (SPPG) Palmerah in West Java on the provision of suitable food for the MBG. The food sources must be traceable, safe, and of adequate quality.

Meanwhile, head of SPPG Palmerah Yudha Permana said they will supply MBG packages to 11 schools in West Jakarta. About 3,000 students will receive this nutritious meal a day, he said.

🔯 He noted that in addition to using local human resources, SPPG has been working with local farms to provide quality food at reasonable prices./.
