Jakarta (VNA) –The Al-Adha 1446 Hijriah prayer took place solemnly across Indonesia on June 6 morning, with millions of Muslims gathering at mosques, stadiums, and public areas to perform the ritual.

Eid al-Adha (the festival of sacrifice) is one of the two biggest Islamic holidays, alongside Eid al-Fitr (the end of Ramadan).

At Al-Azhar Great Mosque – the second largest in Jakarta, thousands of worshippers attended the prayer ceremony.

According to the mosque management board, Al-Azhar had planned to welcome about 12,000 people to the Eid al-Adha 1446 Hijriah this year, with organisation and security plans prepared in advance to ensure the ceremony takes place safely and smoothly.

The Eid al-Adha prayer is a religious act that combines the spirit of faith, sacrifice, and community, helping Muslims connect with Allah.

This year, Al-Azhar Mosque received more than 250 cows, goats, and sheep donated by organisations and individuals for performing the sacrificial ritual. Most of the meat were later distributed to the poor and the needy as a way of sharing within the Muslim community, the core spirit of this sacred holiday.

The 2025 Eid al-Adha celebration in Indonesia saw a significant increase in the number of livestock donations, with active participation from the government, organisations, and individuals. This not only shows piety but also reflects the spirit of solidarity and sharing among the Indonesian Muslim community.

♑ The sharing of livestock meat enhances the bond between community members so that the poor do not feel abandoned during the great festival./.
