Industry ministry to submit new solar power price scenarios in September
The Ministry of Industry and Trade will submit to the Government new scenarios for solar power prices in two regions on September 15 based on recommendations it received after presenting its proposal on the matter to the Government’s standing board on July 31.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministryof Industry and Trade will submit to the Government new scenarios for solarpower prices in two regions on September 15 based on recommendations the ministry received after presenting its proposal on the matter to the Government’s standingboard on July 31.
Deputy Minister of Industry andTrade Do Thang Hai released the information at the regular Government pressconference on August 1.
He said the new prices of solarenergy will be set based on levels of solar radiation of regions instead ofthe current single price of 9.35 US cent per kWh.
In the previous scenarios, theministry proposed four levels of prices corresponding to four ranges of solarradiation. Based on recommendations from ministries, sectors and the Government’sstanding board, it later changed to two levels of prices for two regions, oneof which comprises six provinces with high solar radiation (including BinhThuan, Ninh Thuan, Dak Lak and Phu Yen) and the other covers all the remaining localities. Accordingly, the price of solar power in the first region is projected at 1,916VND (8.38 US cent) per kWh, and 1,758 VND (7.09 US cent) in the second region.
The ministry’s statistics showedtotal solar power capacity of proposed projects has added up to 25,000 MW andthat of wind power 16,500 MW. As of the end of June, 89 solar power plants hadbeen commissioned with total capacity of nearly 4,500 MW. At present, nearly400 solar power projects are waiting to be added to the power developmentplans, but they face hurdles posed by the new Planning Law which took effect onJanuary 1 this year. -VNA
Along with its rapid economic growth, Vietnam’s electricity demand is also increasing strongly, at around 10 percent a year, causing huge pressure on the energy sector, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Vietnam could face an electricity shortage of 6.6 billion kWh in 2021 and 11.8 billion kWh in 2022. The shortage could increase to 15 billion kWh in 2023, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).
The Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority of the Ministry of Industry and Trade launched a programme to boost the development of rooftop solar power in Vietnam.
The central province of Phu Yen began construction on the second stage of the first solar-powered public lighting system for Tuy Hoa city’s walking street, which will make it the first urban area in central Vietnam lit by renewable energy.
Households in Vietnam which install rooftop solar power systems by 2021 will receive a maximum of 6 million VND (256 USD) each from the German Government through the German development bank KfW.
With the current trading band of +/- 5%, the ceiling rate applicable for commercial banks during the day is 26,509 VND/USD and the floor rate 23,985 VND/USD.
All service vessels and out-of-province fishing boats docking at fishing ports in Lam Dong province will undergo 100% inspection to ensure compliance with paperwork, port entry/exit procedures, and fishing log requirements. Their positions and voyages will be tracked around the clock from departure to return via the VMS.
The roadmap to restrict the use of petrol-powered vehicles and encourage green ones in such major cities as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City is creating a strong boost to the EV market.
