Five earthquakes struck Kon Plong district in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum on August 22, according to the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Center under the Institute of Geophysics.

A 4.2-magnitude earthquake hit Kon Plong district, the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum, on August 20, the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning under the Institute of Geophysics reported.

The Earth experienced its strongest geomagnetic storm in two decades on May 10, with Vietnam directly in its path.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 occurred in Hanoi’s outlying district of My Duc on March 25 morning, said the Institute of Geophysics (IGP) under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

Vietnam recorded almost 100 earthquakes nationwide last month.

A 4.0-magnitude earthquake struck Da Bac district in the northwestern province of Hoa Binh on December 29, but no damage or casualties were reported, according to the Earthquake Information and Tsunami Warning Centre under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology’s Institute of Geophysics.

The Central Highlands province of Kon Tum witnessed 33 earthquakes from 1903 to 2020 but has seen 169 just since last year, a massive growth from the previous century.

A 4.3-magnitude earthquake hit Moc Chau district in the northern mountainous province of Son La at 8:13am on August 17, according to the Institute of Geophysics under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

The Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control on June 16 issued an official message requesting joint efforts of various agencies to overcome consequences of a strong earthquake that hit the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau earlier on the day.

Vietnam has so far this year recorded 35 earthquakes measuring 2.5-4.5 on the Richter scale, according the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Centre under the Institute of Geophysics.

Two earthquakes measuring at least 3 on the Richter scale shook mountainous districts in the central province of Quang Nam within one day, according to the Institute of Geophysics.
