– The 74th GeneralAssembly and Congress of the International Military Sports Council (CISM)wrapped up in Ho Chi Minh City on April 28.

The event helped strengthen the solidarity,friendship and cooperation in the field of sports between Vietnam’s Ministry ofNational Defense and international counterparts.

Major General Vu Van Sy, director of themilitary training bureau from the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army,said the function reviewed the CISM’s performance in 2018 and mapped outoperational programmes for 2019 and the following years.

Implementing the Party and State’s foreignpolicies of expansion, multilateralisation and diversification of externalrelations, the defence ministry will continue promoting multinationalcooperation, focusing on sports activities for peace, cooperation, friendshipand common development with peoples and armies from other countries worldwide.

According to CISM President, Colonel HervePiccirillo, participants agreed to expand relations and increase connectivitybetween the CISM with world sports federations and national ones, aiming at thegeneral sports movement around the globe.

The CISM also set the target of promoting sportsactivities for disabled soldiers and considers this an important task in helpingthem recover their physical and mental health and supporting them to integrateinto society.

Member countries adopted the organisation’sstrategic document outlining special plans and roadmaps for the CISM’sdevelopment in the next five years.

Colonel Herve Piccirillo said the success ofthis year’s event was evidenced by the participation of more than 90 countries,and particularly the admission of two new members: Ghana and Mozambique.

The CISM was founded in 1948 and currently has138 member countries. Each year, it organises more than 100 sportingtournaments hosted by its members.

The council aims to promote sporting activitiesand physical education in armed forces, while fostering friendship andsolidarity through providing technical assistance for its members.-VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
