Int’l volunteer campaign targets Ha Long heritage

An international volunteer campaign will be held in Ha Long City, north-eastern Quang Ninh province from August 15-28 as part of a series of programmes on preserving world heritage initiated by UNESCO and the COordianting Committee for International Voluntary Service (CCIVS).

Thirteenvolunteers from Vietnam , Canada , France , Germany and the Republic ofKorea , are expected to joint the event, which will include discussionson cultural heritages and study trips to Ha Long Bay nearby coal minesand fishing villages.

They will also join local children, young people and residents inpainting contests, fashion shows and collecting rubbish on beaches.

Organisers – Solidarites Jeunesses Vietnam and Ha Long Bay ManagementBoard – hope the activities will give the volunteers an insight intoproblems facing the famous bay and help relate them to world heritageissues.

The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) andthe CCIVS initiated the series of 12 world heritage preservation andpromotion programmes entitled “World Heritage Volunteers Patrimonitorolls up the sleeves” in 2007./.

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
