Investment in science-technology and education-training is a key task for the future development of the country, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan has said.

Nhan made the statement at aconference in Ho Chi Minh City on August 11 after reviewing theresults of the previous 5 years investment in four leading agencies inthe fields of science-technology and education-training, as well aspresenting their future, long-term investment strategies.

The four, including the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology,the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the Hanoi and HCM CityNational Universities , should coordinate closely with relevantministries in implementing their development plan during the 2013-2015period, he said.

The Deputy PM urged relevantministries to contribute ideas to the plan for submission to theNational Assembly for approval.

On the same day,the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Popularisation andEducation, the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association and theAssociation of Private Universities and Colleges organised a seminar onVietnam ’s educational reform in the information-technologyenvironment.

Delegates at the event discussed therole played by IT in the basic and comprehensive renovation of educationand training and the transmission of knowledge in the IT era.

Many described IT as a breakthrough solution in revamping educationalmanagement and content as well as teaching and learning methods.

Educational reform can be only conducted effectively with the support of IT, they said.

In that context, the delegates highlighted the need for the sector topay attention to developing IT skills for both teachers and students.-VNA

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
