Japanese, Indonesian naval forces enhance cooperation

Jakarta (VNA) – Two destroyers of the Japanese Marine Self-Defence Force (JMSDF)docked at Tanjung Priok port in North Jakarta on June 4 as part of the 60th anniversary celebrations of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

First Admiral Denih Hendrata, commander ofIndonesian Navy of Jakarta’s Main Base III, said the visit is expected tostrengthen partnership between the two countries’ marine forces through sharingknowledge and experience.

Rear Admiral Hiroyuki Izumi, commander of thetwo fleets, said the bilateral friendship plays a crucial role in maintaining prosperityand security in Asia.

The two ships carrying 600 personnel, including191 young cadets who had just graduated from the JMSDF Academy will stay inJakarta until June 8.

The two destroyers Makinami (weighing 4,650 tonnes)and Kashima (weighing 4,050 tonnes) will be opened for public for a day visiton June 6.

JSDMF holds a long distance sailing annually totrain the young cadets about global perspective and partnership. 

This year, they are sailing through distance of31 thousand miles around the world within five months from May 21 to October 30and visiting 10 countries with 12 stops.-VNA
