Vietnamese fans of Japanese anime and manga art will have a chance to enjoy an exhibition entitled Japan: Kingdom of Characters.

Star characters including Astro Boy, Ultraman, Hello Kitty andDoraemon, popular amongst local children and adults, will be put ondisplay as standing figures as well as via panels and DVDs.

"Wehope that visitors will gain a better understanding of the sub-culturaland historical background behind Japan's love for this type of art andits significance in modern society," said Norihiko Yoshioka, from theJapan Foundation that set up the exhibition.

In Japan, charactersare found on bank passbooks and train passes alongside the regular andseemingly natural presence of stuffed mascots at local police boxes,Yoshioka noted.

"They have permeated everyday life in Japan to a degree that would be unthinkable in most other countries".

Visitorswill have a chance to discover how characters such as Pokemon, MobileSuit Gundam and Sentokun have infiltrated and affected modern culture.

Throughthe exhibition, its organisers want anime and manga fans in Vietnam togain a panoramic overview of the art from the 1950s to 2000s and itsfuture scope.

The exhibition will kick off at the VietnamUniversity of Fine Arts in Hanoi on Oct. 6 and run until the 23rd beforeit visits the Ho Chi Minh Museum in Hue from November 2-13, and the HCMCity Museum between November 25 and December 4./.

Vietnam re-elected to 2005 UNESCO Convention’s Intergovernm🅺ental Committee

This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee. The exhibition showcases more than 100 valuable documents and artifacts, divided into two main parts: “Journalist Nguyen Ai Quoc – Ho Chi Minh” and “President Ho Chi Minh – Founder and Mentor of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press.” This is an opportunity to recall the late leader’s journalism journey and affirm his exceptional role in founding and guiding the revolutionary press in Vietnam.
