Japan’s Soshi group wants to set up university in HCM City

HCM City (VNA) – Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi MinhCity People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem had a meeting on November 8 with MasudaTetsuya, General Director of Japan’s education group Soshi, who said his firmwants to set up an international university in the Vietnamese city.

Liem said that Vietnam and Japan have enjoyedencouraging educational cooperation, including the Hanoi-based Vietnam-JapanUniversity. He expressed his belief that this cooperation will be fostered,particularly when the two countries mark the 45th founding anniversary of theirdiplomatic ties in 2018.

The number of Vietnamese students in Japan hasrisen by almost 20 times over the last decade, reflecting Vietnamese people’sdemand for and respect of the education quality of Japan, the official noted.

Local authorities are ready to provide favourableconditions for Soshi to set up a representative office in HCM City, he said,pledging optimal conditions for foreign companies to do long-term business. 

Tetsuya asked HCM City to help the group open anoffice here to connect families with their children studying in Japan and helpVietnamese graduates find jobs.

He noted that Soshi, which has opened officesand universities in many countries, wants HCM City to help it establish aninternational university to share more tertiary education experience, supportforeign students in HCM City and help attract foreign investment into the city.

Soshi is a major education group of Japan thatowns more than 120 educational establishments from the preschool to tertiarylevels in Japan and New Zealand, serving about 30,000 students, including some700 Vietnamese.-VNA
