Journalists helped to sharpen pens for corruption fight

A conference was held in the central city of Da Nang on July 23 to give an insight into anti-corruption laws to journalists who are said to play an important role in the combat against the scourge.

At the function, held by the Ministry of Information andCommunications and the Ministry of Justice, reporters and editors heardin-depth presentations on the Law on Corruption Prevention and Control,and the United Nations Convention against Corruption.

There are 906 press agencies operating in Vietnam at present withsome 17,000 journalists, thousands of whom pen investigative articles oncorruption.

Through preliminary informationgathered by the press, State agencies have brought a number of seriouscorruption cases to light, such as irregularities in the land managementin Hai Phong city, and Khanh Hoa, Binh Thuan and Kien Giang provinces.

The media have also helped raise people’s awarenessof the issue by actively publicising legal regulations and updating thepublic on the fight against corruption.-VNA

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
