Judicial leader clarifies key issues

The 13 th National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on March 22 held aquestion-and-answer session in Hanoi with Chief Judge of the SupremePeople’s Court Truong Hoa Binh.

Addressing theevent, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said the session aims to improve theworking quality of State apparatus, especially the contingent of cadresand officials to turn the Supreme People’s Court into a working centreof the judicial sector.

Hung highlighted the comprehensive reforms in education and training to meet the demand of national development.

Legislators posed questions on measures to overcome shortcomings inprofessional expertise and experience, judges and juries’ sense ofresponsibility at local courts, and the enhancement of supervision tominimise negative occurrences in hearings.

Answering Hung’s questions on eight criteria set under the NA ResolutionNo. 37 on combating crime, activities of the Supreme People’s Court andSupreme People’s Procuracy, and enforcement work this year, Binhaffirmed that the whole judicial sector will do its utmost to fulfil setgoals.

Binh added that the sector is working on a new Resolution that defines suspended-sentence regulations.

He also acknowledged delays in trials of administrative cases, andpledged that the sector will strive to deal with the issue.-VNA
