Khmer-Vietnamese Association becomes part of Cambodia’s ministry

PhnomPenh (VNA) - Cambodia’s Interior Ministry has issued a decisionallowing the Khmer-Vietnamese Association in Cambodia (KVA) to register for theministry’s list of associations.

Under the decision, the KVA will operate in accordance with Cambodia’s Law onAssociations and Non-Governmental Organisations and relevant legal documents, andthe association’s charter archived at the ministry.

Thecharter says the KVA aims to gather Khmer people of Vietnamese origin, andVietnamese in Cambodia together, providing them with spiritual and materialsupport.

Theassociation works to popularise Khmer traditions and Cambodia’s laws, and joinhands with the Cambodian Government to push humanitarian work and illiteracyeradication in the country.

TheKVA, based in the Cambodian’s capital city of Phnom Penh, has chapters in 25cities and provinces of the country.

OnJune 16, KVA leaders held a ceremony to present the association’s new stamp toits boards and chapters.

KVAPresident Chau Van Chi said the association seeks no profits, says no to racialand religious discrimination and only serves the interests of its members.

VietnameseAmbassador to Cambodia Vu Quang Minh expressed his hope that with therecognition, the association will launch more useful activities, thus contributingto enhancing the traditional friendship between the two countries.-VNA
