Kovalevskaya 2014 awards honour Vietnamese scientists

The annual Kovalevskaya 2014 awards, honouring outstanding female scientists, will be presented on March 7 in Hanoi, according to the Vietnam Women’s Union.

A number of female staff from the HanoiMedical University’s histology and embryology department will receive anaward for their project researching cell technology to cure ocularsurface damage.

The individual prize will be awarded to ProfessorDoctor Nguyen Thi Kim Lan from the Thai Nguyen University ofAgriculture and Forestry, a leading veterinary specialist with numerousapplicable research studies helping famers fight diseases in cattle.

TheKovalevskaya 2014 award ceremony is part of events to celebrate the 105th anniversary of International Women’s Day (March 8).

The prestigious prize, named after the great Russian femalemathematician Sofia Kovalevskaia, is awarded to female academics withexcellent achievements in the sciences or arts and humanities. TheVietnamese Kovalevskaia awards were established in 1985.-VNA

PM calls for coop𒁃eration with Sweden in nuclear energy technology

The PM revealed Vietnam’s plan to develop nuclear power in the near future, and called on the Swedish side to assist Vietnam in developing and refining legal and policy frameworks for the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes; training and developing human resources; ensuring nuclear safety; and conducting training and drills to improve incident management capabilities.
