The eighth National Assembly (NA) of Laos wrapped up after three working days of its first session in the afternoon of April 22.

Vientiane (VNA) – The eighth Nati🍨onal Assembly (NA) of Laos wrapped up after three working days oಌf its first session in the afternoon of April 22.

In her speech, NA Chairwoman Pany Yathotou declared the first session successful with a host of important issues approved.
The parliament elected the new NA Chairperson, President, Prime Minister, Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy, and Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court. It also approved the structure of the NA as well as the Government, she said. Participants ratified the eighth five-year socio-economic development plan, the vision to 2030, the national strategy for the next 10 years, and the State budget plan to 2020. They also gave approval for the five-year master plan of the eighth NA and the parliament’s plan on promulgating and amending laws in the next five years, the NA Chairwoman noted.
Pany Yathotou emphasised that the success of the first session demonstrates the deputies’ consensus and high sense of political responsibility, greatly contributing to the building of a people’s democratic state that is able to fulfill the tasks assigned by the Lao people. She said the first session’s conclusion was just an initial success which set the foundation for the legislature’s activities throughout the eighth tenure. The NA will join efforts by the Party, Government and people to achieve the targets set at the 10th national Party congress, the official added.-VNA
