Leaders pay tribute to heroic martyrs

A delegation of the Party Central Committee, President, National Assembly (NA), Government and Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee on July 27 laid wreaths at the Monument for Heroic Martyrs and President Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum in Hanoi on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27).

Hanoi (VNA) – Adelegation of the Party Central Committee, President, National Assembly (NA),Government and Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee on July 27 laidwreaths at the Monument for Heroic Martyrs and President Ho Chi Minh’smausoleum in Hanoi on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of theWar Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27).

Thedelegation included General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong, former Party General Secretaries Le KhaPhieu and Nong Duc Manh, President Tran Dai Quang, former President Tran DucLuong, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, former Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung,NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, former NA Chairman Nguyen Van An, andPresident of the VFF Central Committee Tran Thanh Man.

Theleaders and former leaders then paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at hismausoleum.

Thesame day, many delegations from the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministryof Public Security, the Government Office, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids andSocial Affairs, and Hanoi city also laid wreaths in memory of martyrs and paidhomage to President Ho Chi Minh.

The Vietnam Invalids and Martyrs Day is a special chance forthe entire country to commemorate millions of martyrs and war invalids whosacrificed their lives and health during the wars.

In 1947, just two years after President Ho Chi Minh deliveredthe declaration of independence, the first decree on preferential policies forwar invalids and fallen soldiers was issued. 

The same year, July 27 was designated as thenational war invalids day, which was later renamed the War Invalids and MartyrsDay, to call on the entire community to support war invalids and martyrs’families in acknowledgement of their contributions to the nation. -VNA
