Localities respond to 2019 Earth Hour

A series of localities nationwide on March 30 responded to the 2019 Earth Hour with a range of practical activities, aiming to call for joint efforts in saving electricity and protecting the earth.

Hanoi (VNA) – A series of localities nationwide on March 30 responded to the2019 Earth Hour with a range of practical activities, aiming to call for jointefforts in saving electricity and protecting the earth.

Acampaign was launched in Lap Vo district, the Mekong Delta province of DongThap, with a tree planting ceremony and a seminar on energy, attracting theparticipation of more than 500 students.

Meanwhile, in the northern province of Thai Nguyen, the campaign drew more than5,000 people who signed to commit to switching off at least one light in atleast 60 minutes on March 30 night.

Thenorthern mountainous province of Lao Cai also organised a meeting in responseto Earth Hour, spreading the message of “Save energy, save the earth.”

Aspart of activities within the campaign, a massive ride bike was held with the participationof many organisations and individuals in the locality, aiming to raise publicawareness of Earth Hour.

The Earth Hour is a worldwidemovement organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). It hasbeen described as the largest world grassroots movement for the environment,with the involvement of around 7,000 cities in 172 countries and territories sofar. 

In Vietnam, activities responding to the EarthHour are coordinated by the Ministry of Industry and Trade with the support ofthe Electricity of Vietnam (EVN). EVN has been the main sponsor of the EarthHour movement in the country for 10 consecutive years, since Vietnam joined thecampaign in 2009.-VNA
