Long An destroys nearly 1,000 H5N1 infected poultry

The infected flock was traced to a poultry farm inLong Khe commune in Can Duoc district. This is the second H5N1 bird flucase recorded in the province.

Prior to the cull, districtveterinarians discovered fever symptoms on poultry at the farm . Thedepartment tested the animals and concluded that the flock was infected.The 75-90 day-old flock had not been vaccinated.

In order to prevent an outbreak, local authorities promptly destroyedthe infected birds and sterilised the poultry farm to contain the virus .Vaccination was given to all pultry flocks in the districts of CanDuoc, Ben Luc and Can Gioc, while farmers were urged to apply bio-safetymeasures and vaccinate all poultry against the H5N1 bird flu virus inline with the regulations issued by the veterinary department.-VNA
