Long An livelihood project comes to fruition

A project to improve local livelihoods amid climate change based on the ecological system of Lang Sen wetland reserve in the southern province of Long An has come to fruition two years after it began, heard a local conference on December 27 to review its activities.

It hashelped local communities settle and tie their lives to the reserve whileimproving the managerial and professional skills of its staff who alsolearn about planning and putting each project’s activity in place.

The 340,000 USD project is carried out by the Vietnam Fund for Nature under the auspices of the Swedish Government.

Lang Sen wetland reserve, part of Dong Thap Muoi (Plain of Reeds),sprawls over 5,500 hectares with a rich biodiversity of flora and fauna.

A preliminary survey pointed out that the reserve is home to156 flora species belonging to 60 families, and 149 vertebrate speciesbelonging to 46 families, of which 13 species are listed in Vietnam’sRed Book.-VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
