Malaysian police arrested two Turks for suspected links to the self-claimed Islamic State (IS), said Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on May 4.

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysian police arrested two Turks for suspected links to theself-claimed Islamic State꧅ (IS), said Deputy Prime Mღinister Ahmad Zahid Hamidion May 4.

The two suspects,Turgay Karaman, a schoolteacher, and Ihsan Aslan, a businessman, were capturedby Malaysian police on May 3. According to Zahid, counter-terrorism police hadmonitored communications of various suspects, including the two. Investigation showedthat the suspects have spread ideas of IS and provided financial support forthe group, thus they are arrested in accordance with the Special Offences (SpecialMeasures) Act of Malaysia. Zahid affirmed thatMalaysian police would collaborate with Turkish police and militaryintelligence forces to investigate the case. Malaysia has arrestedhundreds of people over the years on suspicion of terrorist offences. Thecountry has been on high alert since a grenade attack in Kuala Lumpur’soutskirts in July 2016, which IS claimed responsibility for.-VNA
