Malaysia, Indonesia step up border security cooperation

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysia and Indonesia need to make greater efforts in ensuri🐬ngborder security, said Malaysian Defence Minister Hisha🔴mmuddin Hussein.

Hussein made thestatement during the 40th meeting of the Malaysia-Indonesia General BorderCommittee on September 28, which he co-chaired with his visiting Indonesian counterpartRyamizard Ryacudu. The Malaysian ministersaid the two countries will set up five more joint command posts along theborders in Sabah and Sarawah states of Malaysia and Kalimantan region ofIndonesia to prevent any possible activities of insurgent groups. Along with jointmarine patrols of Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, the three countriesalso will conduct trilateral air and land patrols, he added.

With five additionalcentres, the two countries will have nine joint command posts which areexpected to increase cooperation, information exchange and border control of thetwo countries’ armies. During his visitto Malaysia, Indonesian Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu also met with PrimeMinister Najib Razak.-VNA
