Mass media join AIDS, drugs and prostitution fight

The Vietnam News Agency (VNA), Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) and the National Vietnam Television will team up with the National Committee for AIDS, drugs and prostitution prevention and control in raising the efficiency of the combat against AIDS, drugs and prostitution.

A cooperation agreement to this effect was signed in Hanoi on September29, witnessed by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Chairman of theVietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan, and other Government andState leaders.

The media agencies vowed to speed up thepopularisation of the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies andlaws regarding the effort.

They will work together to heightenthe responsibilities of individuals and civil society organisationswhile helping people gain correct understanding of dangers andconsequences of these social problems.

The agencies are taskedto reflect the committee’s activities and operations of otherorganisations and individuals in an effective, accurate and timely way.

These efforts are seen as part of the national capacity to achieve the target of ending HIV/AIDS by 2030.

Vietnam reported 12,599 new HIV cases in 2013, down by 60 percentsince 2007. The number of AIDS patients and fatalities was halved duringthe 2007-2013 period.-VNA

“I Love My Country” media campaign launched

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
