Measures to develop road tunnels discussed in Da Nang

An international seminar highlighting measures to sustainably build and manage road tunnels was held in central Da Nang city on October 24-25 within the framework of the World Road Association (PIARC).
An international seminar highlighting measures to sustainably build andmanage road tunnels was held in central Da Nang city on October 24-25within the framework of the World Road Association (PIARC).

Hosted by the Vietnam Bridge and Road Association and the VietnamRoad Administration, the event focused on environmental issues, methodsof designing and constructing road tunnels, and ways to maintain them byresponding to natural and human risks.

Roadtunnels play an important role in developing transport infrastructuresas they can help avoid dangerous intersections, reduce traffic accidentsand save time for drivers. However, those in Vietnam have becomeincreasingly affected by air and noise pollution over the last decade.

To minimise environmental contamination, expertssuggested the country constantly inspect the quality of the air andreview and assess the efficiency of current environmental protectionsystems in the tunnels.

They also stressed theneed to manage transportation activities, including the control of theloading capacity of vehicles across the tunnels, and raise communityawareness on traffic safety regulations.

Thetwo-day seminar drew more than 40 foreign delegates from PIARC membercountries, including Spain, Norway, France, China and the UK, togetherwith Vietnamese experts in this field.-VNA

Running from August 4 to September 2, under the hashtag #TuHaoVietNam, the campaign invites participants in two categories: “I Love My Country” video clips and “I Love My Country” check-in photos.

With a tight 13-month deadline, the move is under a strategic and urgent policy to bridge educational gaps, train the local workforce, and shore up territorial sovereignty in some of the country’s most remote areas.
