Mekong Delta agriculture production plan approved

The target was defined inthe rural agriculture development plan to 2020, with a vision to2030, approved recently by the Ministry of Agriculture and RuralDevelopment.

According to the plan, the region aims for every 1hectare of cultivated land to field 130 million VND (6,110 USD) andevery 1 hectarte of aquaculture farm, 250 million VND (11,750 USD) by2020.

The plan also said it is necessary to minimise thetransformation of agricultural land into non-agricultural one in orderto ensure a rice land area of 3.25 million in 2020.

Promotion ofregional links are also a focus, while fairs and exhibitions tointroduce agro-forestry-aquatic products will also be organisedregularly.

The Mekong Delta region – the country’s largestrice granary - comprises of 12 provinces and one centrally-run city witha total area of 40,000 square kilometres and a population of 18million.-VNA
