Minh defends Vietnam Challenge title

Hanoi (VNA) - Nguyen Tien Minh defended his tennistitle at the CIPUTRA HANOI - YONEX SUNRISE Vietnam International Challenge,which closed in Hanoi on March 27.

The No 1 seed defeated Thai rival Khosit Phetpradab 21-14, 21-17 in the men’sfinal at Cau Giay Gymnasium.

Minh started the match slowly, letting Phetpradab take the lead with the first14 points. However, the former world No 5 came from behind to win the first setin 30 minutes. The second set was easier for Minh, who needed only 15 minutesto defeat Phetpradab.

This was the second time that Minh beat Phetpradab, after he won 21-9, 21-10 atthe Yonex Chinese Taipei Open in 2013.

His wife and teammate, Vu Thi Trang, however, failed to again win her gold medalon March 27.

No 1 Trang lost 16-21, 17-21 to No 2 Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand in thewomen’s final.

The men’s doubles title went to Indian Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and ChiragShetty. The No 6 duo came from behind to win 17-21, 21-9, 21-15 over No 5Trawut Potieng and Nanthakarn Yordphaisong of Thailand.

The women’s doubles gold was earned by Japanese Erina Honda and Nozomi Shimizu,while the mixed doubles crown went to China’s Shi Longfei and TangPingyang.-VNA

Vietnam re-elected to 2005 UNESCO𓆉 Convention’s Intergovernmental Committee

This is the first time since the adoption of the Convention that a country has served two consecutive terms on the Committee.
