Hanoi (VNA) – The moon cake market ahead of the Mid-Autumn Festival this year seemsto be more bustling after two years of gloom because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Popularmoon cakes of brands like Kinh Do, Huu Nghi, and Hai Ha have been on sale inthe most crowded areas in Hanoi in order to meet the shopping demandof customers for the upcoming festival.

VanDong, a salesman at the Kinh Do moon cake stall at Vincom Ba Trieu, said thatalthough the booth opened one month earlier than last year, the number ofcustomers buying moon cakes has more than doubled.
The prices of most moon cakes this year are 10% higher than last year. Businesses said the high price of materials is the reason behind the increasing priceof moon cakes.
Forproducts of Kinh Do, the price of a moon cake ranges from 50,000 VND (2.14USD) to 79,000 VND.
A representative of Long Dinh moon cake brand saidthe price of cakes is expected to increase by about 10%.
The owner of Bao Phuong moon cake bakery in Tay Ho district said the prices ofsome baking ingredients such as flour, rice, cooking oil, and eggs have increasedby 50%. However, Bao Phuong is still trying to stabilise the price. The price of Bao Phuong moon cake ranges from40,000-75,000 VND a piece.
Along with traditional stalls,ಞ moon cakes have beenalso offered for sale on e-commerce platforms such Shopee,Tiki, and Lazada as to attract online customers. US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel Kritenbrink tried to harmonise the flavours of the US with Vietnam’s traditional delicacies to create a special moon cake in tribute to the Southeast Asian country’s Mid Autumn Festival and the 25th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two nations.
