Can Tho (VNA) – MozambicanAmbassador to Vietnam Gamiliel S. J. Munguambe paid a working visit to theMekong delta city of Can Tho on September 14 seeking for stronger cooperation inagriculture, fishery and personnel training.

In a working session with ViceChairman of the Can Tho city People’s Committee Dao Anh Dung, he saidMozambique’s economy greatly depends on agriculture.

Can Tho, the economic hub of theMekong Delta region, and Mozambique have similarities in climate conditions aswell as common concerns in agricultural production, he said, seeking the city’sexperience in the production and processing of rice and other farm produce.

The diplomat also suggested the twosides seek cooperation opportunities in personnel training in the farmingsector.

Munguambe suggested the Vietnameseand Mozambican Governments step up the implementation of bilateral cooperationprogrammes with the participation of leading agricultural experts in order toexchange experience and improve productivity and quality of agro-fisheryproducts.

Mozambique highly values theefficiency of high-tech agriculture models in Can Tho and wants to learn fromthe locality’s experience in this field, he said.

The ambassador expressed his hopethat Can Tho will work as a bridge between Mozambique and agricultural powersin Asia like Japan, Thailand and the Republic of Korea.

He proposed the Can Tho authoritiesconsider setting up an investment network between the city and Mozambique,explaining that the two sides boast substantial potential suitable for internationalcooperation.

The host also suggested establishingtwin relationship between Can Tho and Mozambique’s Moatize city, which has beendeveloped into an economic area exclusively for agricultural businesses, withcorporate tax decreasing to zero percent during 2016-2020.

The locality is home to many prestigiousuniversities and agricultural research institutes of Mozambique, along withfields piloted with high technologies, he said.

For his part, Dung describedagriculture as a spearhead of Can Tho thanks to high-tech applications inproduction, adding that the locality earns about 1.2 billion USD fromagro-fishery exports annually.

Can Tho is ready to share experiencein production and processing with Mozambique, he said.

The official told his guest that CanTho plans to organise visits of the municipal authorities to Mozambique,especially Moatize city, to discuss more with the Mozambican Government about theiragricultural cooperation.

At the same time, Can Tho will payheed to cooperation programmes between universities of the two sides, hesaid.-VNA
